Mission Statement

The mission of the Retail User Group, a mutual benefit organization, is to provide retailers and solution providers a networking partnership for the sharing of information, experiences and best practices; enabling the advancement of retail solutions to solve common business problems.


We’re pleased to support an opportunity for all IRUG Retailer Members to attend the NCR Synergy Conference August 15 – 17.  NCR has been an active participant in IRUG’s Advisory Councils, and was planning multiple sessions at the 2016 IRUG Conference.  I encourage you to attend their Conference (which they have extended to non-customer IRUG retail members) and take advantage of this unique opportunity. Look for an email invitation.

For thirty-eight years, IRUG has solicited feedback from our attendees at each annual conference in order to make the next conference more meaningful.  At last year’s conference we heard several important items of feedback that made us reconsider the 2016 Conference. Attending a conference must have actionable and lasting value to spend the time and expense to be away from the business for several days.

Why we have made changes in our conference date, our venue and content development process:
  • We were told there were too many retail conferences in May impacting travel budgets and time away from the office. 
  • Las Vegas was not a good location, many companies are reluctant to allow us to attend and IRUG was at one time an event you could take your families too.
  • The education was too focused on the portfolio of a Title sponsor and their select partners; you wanted a broader spectrum; a deep dive on payments, security, mobility, omni-channel and the fast evolving customer interface, now critical issues and no one vendor has a monopoly on total solutions.
  • The month of May has family issues such as graduations, moving students back home from college that impairs your ability to attend the conference.
  • The User Group format of education, sharing and networking should continue without a high pressure sales environment is important.
IRUG has made changes to address the issues you presented and build a better more informative worthwhile event:
  • We moved the event to July, staying away from all the May conferences, school ending and graduations, and extended time away from your offices.
  • IRUG has returned to Hilton Orlando Lake Buena Vista a Walt Disney World Resort, just a short stroll to Disney properties.  As at past IRUG conferences, bring the family.
  • IRUG will still be the primary retail education event focused on your business challenges. 
  • In order to meet today’s retail IT and customer experience challenges; IRUG has expanded the advisory council program adding to EMV/payments advisory council: a POS Evolution, Data and Cyber security, and Omni channel councils.
We are not gone, just re-branded with what made us great and added more relevant content to better meet the information needs of the retail community we serve!
